A few days before Elon Musk canceled his trip to Delhi, Rohan Patel, the driving force behind Tesla’s India efforts, left the company.

Days before he was scheduled to leave Tesla for his tour to India, Rohan Patel resigned from the company following a report that claimed Musk had abandoned plans to build affordable cars.

Due to “extremely heavy Tesla obligations,” Elon Musk decided today to postpone a crucial trip to India aimed at expanding the Tesla market.

“Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year,” Elon Musk posted to X. Elon Musk unexpectedly revealed last week that he will be meeting with Prime Minister Modi in India. India and Tesla were supposed to benefit from Musk’s well-publicized tour. As part of Prime Minister Modi’s Made in India initiatives, he was supposed to declare an investment of two to three billion dollars to construct a plant in India. Both the visit and his intention to extend his massive Starlink project in India have now been pushed back until “later this year.” Musk is also awaiting regulatory approval from the Indian government before launching his Starlink satellite broadband services in the most populous nation on earth.

On April 15, however, it’s interesting to note that Rohal Patel, vice president of business development and public policy at Tesla, left the company. He was a vital component of the plans for its growth into India. Additionally departing the company on April 15 was Drew Baglino, vice president of energy engineering and powertrain. Elon Musk praised them both when they made their respective announcements of leaving on X.
“My parents are immigrants, and because of their hard work, I’m the luckiest person alive. Fortunate to have participated in @BarackObama’s campaign and presidency, and incredibly honored to have worked at @Tesla to transform numerous industries for the better,” Rohan wrote on X. OPEN
