“Badminton Star Condemns Congress MLA’s Sexist ‘Kitchen’ Remark”

Badminton sensation Saina Nehwal has spoken out against the derogatory remarks made by Karnataka Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa towards BJP leader Gayathri Siddeshwara. The 92-year-old politician’s comment suggesting that women should confine themselves to the kitchen sparked outrage, with Nehwal emphasizing the need to break free from such outdated perspectives.

In a social media post, Nehwal expressed her disappointment, stating, “‘Women should be restricted to the kitchen’ – This is what a top Karnataka leader has said.” She questioned the rationale behind such remarks, especially when women aspire to achieve greatness in various fields. Nehwal highlighted the irony of celebrating women’s empowerment through initiatives like the Women’s Reservation Bill while simultaneously facing disrespect and misogyny.

Responding to the controversy, Gayathri Siddeshwara, the BJP’s candidate for Davangere South, emphasized the progress women have made across different professions. She highlighted the outdated nature of Shivashankarappa’s remarks and underscored the contributions of women in diverse areas, including traditionally male-dominated fields. The BJP has taken action by lodging a complaint against the Congress MLA with the Election Commission of India, signaling a strong stance against sexist rhetoric in politics.
