Amidst concerns sparked by the outbreak of bird flu in Alappuzha district of Kerala, heightened vigilance now envelops Tamil Nadu’s 12 border check posts.
The Animal Husbandry department, responding swiftly to reports of H5N1 avian influenza-related deaths in Alappuzha, intensified surveillance across key transit points including Anaikatti, Walayar, Velandavazham, Melbavi, Mulli, Meenakshipuram, Gopalapuram, Semmanampathy, Veerappagoundanpudur, Naduppuni, Zamin Kaliapuram, and Vadakkadu.
Around-the-clock monitoring is bolstered by dedicated teams stationed at each check post, comprising a veterinary doctor and four personnel. Stringent measures have been implemented, with directives to intercept and turn back vehicles transporting poultry meat, eggs, or ducks.
Additionally, stringent protocols for fumigation and disinfection have been enforced for all incoming vehicles from Kerala.Despite the heightened alert, reassurance comes from health officials who report that out of the 432 samples collected from poultry farms, none have shown traces of avian flu. This proactive approach underscores Tamil Nadu’s commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
