Despite accusations from the Trinamool party of being anti-women, both Murmu and the woman involved defended the act as a gesture of affection, with the woman referring to Murmu as being like a father figure to her. The incident has fueled political tensions, with the Trinamool accusing the BJP of fostering a culture of disrespect towards women.
The Trinamool party, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seized upon the opportunity to criticize the BJP, highlighting past instances of alleged misconduct towards women by BJP politicians. This includes accusations against former wrestling body chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former BJP candidate Pawan Singh, whose songs were criticized for their alleged derogatory references to Bengali women. Murmu, however, retaliated against the accusations, labeling them as a reflection of the Trinamool’s own culture and threatening legal action against the party.
