In a dramatic turn of events in Gorakhpur’s Pipraich area, a 34-year-old woman, identified as Suman Devi, attempted to end her life by climbing an electric pole after a heated argument with her husband over her alleged extramarital affair. The altercation escalated when Devi demanded that her lover reside with her husband, a proposal vehemently opposed by her legal spouse, Ram Govind. Faced with resistance, Devi resorted to the drastic measure of climbing the pole and gripping a high-tension wire.
The incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, drew the attention of onlookers, with a video of the distraught woman atop the electric pole circulating widely on social media. Prompt intervention by concerned citizens led to the involvement of the police, who collaborated with the local electricity department to cut the power supply and ensure the woman’s safety. Despite the perilous situation, authorities successfully persuaded Devi to descend from the pole, averting a tragedy.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Pipraich Police Station commented on the incident, indicating it as a domestic dispute. He affirmed that no formal complaints had been lodged yet and that Devi was eventually escorted home with her husband after being rescued.
