India’s ambitious bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is forging ahead with groundbreaking advancements. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled a remarkable milestone: the introduction of the country’s first-ever ballastless track system. Shared on Twitter, the video showcases the cutting-edge J-slab technology, promising speeds of up to 320 kmph. With 295.5 km of piers and 153 km of viaducts already completed, the project signifies a leap forward in India’s rail infrastructure.
The innovative ballastless track system incorporates pre-cast slabs fitted with rails, offering enhanced stability and efficiency. This novel approach, heralded as a game-changer for high-speed rail, is poised to revolutionize India’s transportation landscape. Notably, the project’s economic integration aims to seamlessly connect major cities like Mumbai, Thane, Vapi, Baroda, Surat, Anand, and Ahmedabad, fostering regional growth and accessibility.
With an estimated cost of ₹1.08 lakh crore, funding partnerships between the central government, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Japan ensure the project’s viability. Japan’s generous loan terms, with a minimal 0.1% interest rate, underscore global support for India’s visionary rail ambitions. As Modi 3.0 propels the nation towards a transformative future, the bullet train project stands as a testament to innovation and progress in India’s railway sector.
